What is Pregnancy Massage?

Pregnancy Massage therapy is a healthy and natural way to reduce stress and tension whilst promoting overall wellness and nurturance for the expectant mother.

How will it help me?

A women’s body undergoes dramatic changes during pregnancy. Carrying a baby shifts the woman’s centre of gravity, causing stress and tension on her back, neck and shoulders. From 12 – 40 weeks a pregnant woman may have a Pregnancy Massage to help to relieve some of these effects to help with the emotional, as well as the psychological impact of pregnancy.

Pregnancy Massage benefits are;

  • Relief of muscular tension, especially in back, neck and shoulders
  • Helps to reduce oedema and swelling by stimulating the bodies circulation
  • Eases anxiety and stress
  • Enhances body awareness for better posture
  • Reduces stress on weight bearing joints
  • Has proven to increase placenta production
  • Increases energy and relieves fatigue
  • Decreases stress hormones
  • Promotes emotional support and well-being

How many treatments should I have?

Every pregnancy and each woman’s needs are different. Generally a massage once a month is ideal, however you may want to increase this to two per month as you enter into your second and third trimester, or if you are experiencing particular tension and pain in the lower back, neck or shoulders. Often this type of massage is most effective when performed on a regular basis. A special and an emotional bond is created between the expectant mother and Massage Therapist allowing for optimum benefits and support during (and after) her pregnancy.

Please note that written consent from your doctor or midwife will be required.
